Former Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC winger Andrew Hoole is set to make his 100th appearance in the A-League this week when his Central Coast Mariners face the Western Sydney Wanderers at Central Coast Stadium. The 24-year-old Newcastle junior
Hoole made his debut as a right back in Newcastle’s 1-0 victory over Brisbane Roar in January 2013, he finished his debut season with eight caps to his name. But it wasn’t until the 2013-14 season when he became a regular first team player featuring 18 times however failing to find the back of the net once.
It wasn’t until his 49th A-League appearance that he scored, a penalty in a 4-3 loss to Sydney FC in April 2015, the club he had signed with the month before.
He made the jump to Graham Arnold’s Sky Blues in the 2015-16 season, but struggled for game-time featuring in only 15 matches before re-joining the Jets for the 2016-17 season.
- 76 matches for Newcastle Jets
- 15 matches for Sydney FC
- 8 matches for Central Coast Mariners
That season was Hoole’s most successful to date scoring five goals and featuring in 26 of Newcastle’s 27 matches. This reportedly earned him interest from clubs overseas. This interest did eventually bring an end to his second stint at the club, unfortunately a move overseas didn’t come to fruition before his contract expired at the end of last season.
This led him to joining Ben Kennedy as a former Jet to sign with local rivals Central Coast. The move obviously brought much attention and ire from Newcastle fans, but that’s expected, signing with a rival club is akin to sleeping with your mate’s girlfriend.
Hoole got off to a rocky start for Paul Okon’s men. He missed the first match, an F3 Derby, due to a carry over suspension then receiving a red card in his debut. But now he’s got the car in motion things seem to be going smoothly. He has netted two impressive goals against his former side Sydney FC, and Wellington Phoenix.
Here’s how he has performed this season.
