Things aren’t looking good at Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace have lost all five matches this season, they’ve already fired Frank de Boer and hired Roy Hodgson, and they haven’t even scored a goal yet. But how bad are they compared to other teams in Europe? Are Premier League’s resident Eagles the worst team in the world?
While Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Radamel Falcao and the like are shining a bright light on Ligue 1, there’s obviously teams lagging behind. One of those teams is Metz. The Maroons are sitting dead last in the league of 20. They only have two goals to their name but have conceded 12, six of those have come against Monaco and PSG, and have lost all five matches to begin, although their most recent result was victory. It’s only early in the season but they look destined for relegation, they are already four points behind 19th placed Strasbourg.

We know how well Brad Jones is going at Feyenoord this season, they’re four wins from four if you’re wondering, but at the bottom are three teams, FC Twenty, Willem and Roda JC, but it’s the latter who are having a shocker of a season so far. The “coal-miners club” are sitting 20th of 20th in Eredivise. They have scored four goals, conceded 14 and are yet to win a single point. While they can still overtake FC Twente and the like, their survival chances aren’t looking good.

3. Ajax – 7 pts

We’re back in France for this one, this time taking a look at Ligue 2 side, Lens. They can almost kiss their hopes of playing PSG next season goodbye, they’ve lost all seven matches, they’ve scored seven goals and have conceded 16. However there is a possibility to move above 19th placed Tours when they face Quevilly this week.
Five matches. Five losses. Eight goals conceded. Zero goals scored. Two managers. It has not been a good start to the season for Crystal Palace. Their 71 shots on goal puts them fifth in the league only behind Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham. But the difference between those sides and Palace is they have converted those shots into goals, and shots into points.
Going on a losing streak to start the season in France and the Netherlands is one thing but in the Premier League where the whole world is watching, is another. It’s the worst start to an English top flight season in 93 years, arguably making them the worst team in the world at the moment.
