Sydney FC are 12 points clear on top of the A-League ladder after hammering third place Melbourne City 4-0 at AAMI Park. Bobo was once again the star of the show. The Brazilian scored yet another brace to take his season tally to 20. In doing so he became the fourth player in A-League history to do so, and the sixth time this has happened, but Bobo now holds the record of getting it done the fastest.
Fastest to 20
- Bobo – 20 games in 2017-18
- Bruno Fornaroli – 22 games in 2015-16
- Jamie Maclaren – 25 games in 2015-16
- Besart Berisha – 27 games in 2016-17
- Jamie Maclaren – 27 games in 2016-17
- Besart Berisha – 29 games in 2011-12
Besart Berisha 2011/12 & 2016-17 –
He may be the most controversial player in the A-League but he is also its all-time leading goal scorer. A championship winner at Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory, Berisha scored 21 goals in a campaign for each clubs. The first came in his maiden 2011-12 season, the second time coming in the 2016-17 season. During this time he scored 42 goals in 57 matches including nine against Perth Glory and eight against Adelaide United. He famously scored four against Adelaide in a 7-1 win in the 2011-12 season. He also scored a hat-trick against Wellington Phoenix last season.
Bruno Fornaroli 2015/16
Bruno Fornaroli was an unknown in Australian football when he signed for Melbourne City. Three years later he’s one of the best goal scorers to ever play in the country. The 2015/16 season saw the Uruguayan become just the second player, to score 20 goals in a season, and also set a record for most goals in a campaign with 25 (a record that is under serious threat). He scored four goals against Perth Glory and Sydney FC including a hat-trick against the latter.
Jamie Maclaren 2015/16 & 2016-17
Not only is Jamie Maclaren the only Australian to score 20 goals in an A-League season he is also the only player to do it in back-to-back campaigns. No one was safe from Maclaren in those two seasons scoring 40 times in 53 games, he netted against all nine clubs he played against including hat-tricks against Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne Victory. Maclaren was a constant thorn in Western Sydney’s side netting nine goals in eight matches.
As mentioned above the Brazilian became the fourth player to score 20 goals in a season, but he is the quickest to do so out of the four. Bobo has scored against every team this season including five against Wellington Phoenix, and four against Perth Glory (they keep popping up). The forward has scored a hat-trick against both clubs, he also did it in two consecutive matches.
