Melbourne City at the top of the A-League ladder after winning their third consecutive match to start the season. Scotsman on loan from Aston Villa Ross McCormack netted the winner with a second half free-kick to give City the win. The victory was extra special for goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic who secured his 100th A-League win. The 2015-16 championship winner is now apart of an elite group, but who does he join in that list?
Leigh Broxham made his debut for Melbourne Victory in January 2007 and has played 240 matches since. He has won 102 of those matches giving him a winning percentage of 42.5. The 29-year-old has won seven championships in his 12-year stint and seven of those matches have come in the finals. The former kit man is not the only Victory player to feature on the list.
One of the A-League’s most clinical strikers, Archie Thompson achieved many things in his career including most goals in a World Cup qualifier and the most goals scored in an A-League match. He also won 104 from 224 matches giving him a winning percentage of 46.43. Thompson won six titles with the club with nine of those coming in the finals.
Danny Vukovic won four titles with three different A-League clubs and kept an A-League record of 85 clean sheets. he won 116 matches out the 278 he played (which is another record) giving him a winning percentage of 41.73. Seven of his victories came in the finals series including last season’s Grand Final with Sydney FC.
Michael Theo has won the same amount of matches as Vukovic but given he has only played 228 matches he has a better winning percentage (50.88) than the former Sky Blue goalkeeper. Theo has won nine titles playing with Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar. A record of 14 of those victories have come in the finals series.
