Newcastle Jets have recorded a late victory for the second week in a row defeating Adelaide United 2-1 at McDonald Jones Stadium. Dimitri Petratos converted a controversial penalty to win the game for his side. His shot deflected of Ersum Gulum into Ryan Strain’s arm. George Blackwood netted his second goal in as many weeks cancelling out Andrew Nabbout’s opener who has six in seven. For Newcastle, their best ever start to a season gets better and better.
Newcastle’s seventh win of the season takes them to 23 points which is the most they have ever recorded at this stage of the season
Pts after 11 rounds
2017-18 23 points
2013-14 18 points
2005-06 17 points
2007-08 17 points
2015-16 13 points
2012-13 13 points
2006-07 13 points
2016-17 12 points
2009-10 12 points
2008-09 11 points
2010-11 8 points
2014-15 7 points
But perhaps for impressing is that the Jets have won more points after 11 rounds than they had at the end of the 2016-17 season (22 points). They also have more points so far this season than they did in the 2008-09 season (18 points) and 2014-15 season (17 points).
And for Jets fans, Ernie Merrick reckons his side is playing average football at the moment.
