Player Highlight: Philippe Coutinho vs Mohamed Salah

The soap opera revolving around Philippe Coutinho’s back injury, Barcelona and Liverpool’s defiance was rather an anticlimactic story, unless you are a Reds fan of course. Anyway, for those of you that do support Liverpool, the little Brazilian finally made his Premier League debut for this season, and it was a much improved performance over his guest stint against Sevilla in the Champions League midweek.

Coutinho was back to his creative best for the Reds making a fairly large dent in that department despite Liverpool failing to take their chances against a strong Burnley outfit. As you will probably expect, the Brazilian played more than his fair share of penetrative passes and those were complemented by some typically clever runs and dribbles. However, the former Inter attacker may not be the sole creator for the Reds this season after another impressive display from Mohamed Salah.

Coutinho vs Burnley:

  • Goals: 0
  • Shot Assists: 4
  • Shots: 7
  • Passing acc: 84%
  • Take-ons: 50%
  • Dispossessed: 0

Salah vs Burnley:

  • Goals: 1
  • Shot Assists: 3
  • Shots: 6
  • Passing acc: 79%
  • Take-ons: 100%
  • Dispossessed: 1

It seems that Coutinho still has it, but the weight of expectation to create things all the time can now be shared with Salah. Although, the Brazilian will take a little time to reacquaint himself with Liverpool’s newer looking squad and life in the Premier League once again, so expect him to improve. The Reds have a tricky task against Leicester City next weekend, and three points is almost a must as they have now gone three games without victory and have conceded a whopping eight goals in this period., not to mention Manchester City are five points clear already.
